Red Hat: its approach to the Italian market

Red Hat’s proposition

Rodolfo Falcone, CEO of Red Hat Italy: “While in 2020 compared with 2019 the digital market in Italy suffered in some areas, in others the opposite happened: for example, the Cloud segment grew by around 20%, the AI-related segment by 16% and Blockchain by 18%, and the growth of the Cybersecurity market was also good”.

Last year the IT market shrank (-0.6%); this year there are signs of a recovery of +3.5% (source: Anitec-Assinform).

And great opportunities are also opening up thanks to the Pnrr. “Of the overall 191.5 billion euros, 40.73 billion will be spent on digitalisation and innovation; in particular, 9.75 on these projects in the Public Administration, 24.30 in the production system and 6.68 on tourism and culture.

These are figures that will allow a tangible improvement in the way we live and interact with the Public Administration”, Falcone continues.

Red Hat is ready to take on the challenge of innovation in the various sectors with dedicated Teams.

Falcone: “There is no business and production system today that does not take into account the issues of Cloud, innovation and edge”.

“We therefore decided to field three different Teams, each focused on one market dimension: Enterprise and Strategic, with a Team of sales people and technical experts focused on the top 100 Italian Companies; a Team for mid and emerging Markets; and a Team for the SMB market”.

Each of these size classes looks for solutions and procures them in a different way.

In the upper market and in the mid-size market, partners and global system integrators are the main point of reference, while small and medium-sized enterprises often turn to telecom operators and Cloud providers that offer turnkey solutions, including in the various verticals.

The Italian market is giving Red Hat a good deal of satisfaction.

The Cybersecurity segment grew by 9% and mobile business by 4.4%, but above all Cloud, up 20.4% compared with the previous survey.

“Following the pandemic, the market lost 0.6%, but the recovery came soon, with +0.3%, as a result of the technology drivers pushing the numbers upwards”, underlines Rodolfo Falcone, Country Manager at Red Hat Italia.

“Moreover, the Pnrr includes 40.73 billion euros in funds allocated to digitalisation, enough to reach several Industries and sectors, together with the promise of strongly driving the public administration forward.

This will bring a tangible improvement in our way of life and in how we interact with public bodies”.

Red Hat has therefore decided to operate in our country by rationalising its structure.

Three different teams will be focused on different segments.

One team of sales and technical staff for Enterprise and White Space companies; one dedicated to the mid-market and a third to SMEs.

“This focus responds not only to the size of the market but also to its verticality.

We have seen that building expertise divided by industry makes it possible to better qualify the approach and obtain high-quality case studies”, concludes Falcone.

Red Hat and the academic world

Falcone: “Among the activities we consider important is the agreement with the Conference of Rectors of Italian Universities to facilitate the introduction of specific topics and technologies in universities and schools, with dedicated activities, licences and specific products, which universities can access on favourable terms.

As well as the free training courses with Ribes Academy, providing free training for people who are out of work”.
